For Oncologists and Cancer Specialists

  • Purpose of OERC
Open Educational Resources for Cancer (OERC) and OERC provides web-based open access to high quality cancer learning modules to professionals involved in medical education with special emphasis on India.

The intent of this site is to enhance and increase cancer instructional and training capacity for medical educators, physicians, nurses, and allied medical personnel and thus, support the education and expansion of the cancer workforce at all levels.

  • Portal Content
Oncology educators in India will conduct an ongoing needs assessment to determine the content of the OERC portal. The ongoing needs assessment is a continuous process, which will continue to define content requests and requirements.

  • Global Sharing of Cancer Education Resources
OERC is an open resource of cancer educational materials covering diverse aspects of oncology to promote global sharing of cancer educational resources as outlined in the World Health Organization World Cancer Report 2008.

By knowledge sharing, OERC will assist countries and their cancer authorities to develop cancer control strategies and programs. The availability of educational and training materials will enhance the capacities of oncology physicians, nurses and other caregivers in developing countries to better diagnose and treat cancer patients. Selected materials will specified for patient and family education.

  • Types of OERC Education Resources
OERC education resources cover diverse aspects of oncology as outlined in the taxonomy of the Home Page. OERC cites references and link to materials that provide free access to advances in basic and clinical cancer research information in user-friendly format. OERC materials may also be used for research training and can support the development of a research information exchange and to promote evidence-based cancer care and prevention.

  • Quality of OERC Education Resources
The quality of the educational materials cited in OERC is judged in two ways.

    • Users will rate the quality of each module using the familiar one to five star system and provide individual comments.
    • An expert "editorial panel" peer reviews (ranks and comments) on selected articles and lectures.
